Early Intervention
Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention, Ages 12-60 months
This program emphasizes both intensive teaching trials (ITT), otherwise known as discrete trial training (DTT) and naturalistic environment teaching (NET) strategies for skill acquisition and to promote generalization of skills.
Discrete trial teaching involves breaking skills down into smaller components and teaching those smaller sub-skills individually. Repeated practice of skills is conducted, and teachers may incorporate prompting procedures as necessary. Correct responses are followed by reinforcement procedures to facilitate the learning process.
Naturalistic Environment Teaching is an instructional method that involves working in an environment that the child encounters in their everyday life, or an environment that the child prefers. When using this method, our therapists teach skills through play which is generally less structured than ITT. Both models together are utilized to ensure mastery of concepts and pre-requisite school-based repertoire of skills.
